I love the index in both Sail Away and 150 American Folk Songs. It's formatted to give you the tone-set, range, and meter of each song. Plus, each song with an accompanying game is marked with an "X." The index makes it easy to find the song I want.
American Folk Songs For Children by Ruth Seeger has been a great addition to my personal library as well. I love her suggestions for how to use the folk songs in school and her thoughts on the musical bond between teacher and student.
For those of you who are walking into a brand new program or would simply like to have resources for your own personal use, I would highly recommend any or all of these books as a great start to your collection. For those who already have these resources, what are your thoughts on their use in the classroom? Would you consider these a staple of your elementary music literature?
